This stoloniferous perennial grass has reddish creeping stems that root at the nodes and forms a spreading, tufted habit. It has silvery green linear leaves and there are two types of yellowish flower heads that appear in clusters during summer.

Spinifex sericeusis naturally found in Australia from Queensland to New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. It is also found in New Zealand, New Caledonia and Lord Howe Island growing on sand dunes along the coast in very well drained poor sandy soils. It prefers an open sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.
The Hairy Spinifex is not commonly cultivated ornamentally but is grown for sand dune stabilisation in coastal regions. It may be planted in beach front gardens as a ground cover establishing from division in 1 to 2 years requiring little maintenance.ID 2495
Note:
The plant can cover large areas above the high water mark and tolerates being partially covered in sand.
