This succulent perennial has a greyish solitary unbranched stem that is hidden by spent leaves and has a crown of fleshy new leaves. It has large mid to blue green lance-shaped recurved leaves and the small yellow tube-shaped flowers appear in winter.

Aloe alooidesis naturally found in eastern Transvaal growing in the high rainfall mountains of the Mpumalanga Provence at an altitude from 1330 m to 2,000 m (6,000 ft) on dolomite based soils.

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in most well-drained moderately fertile soils that are tending acidic with pH 6-7.5. It is drought and mildly frost resistant and is disliked by deer.

This succulent is planted in small or arid gardens as a specimen or used in large rockeries. It is also ideal for commercial landscapes requiring little care once established. ID 2452
