This shrub has multiple smooth stems from the base with spreading branches that form a bushy habit. It has glossy dark green toothed oblong leaves and small white bell shaped flowers appeared in a raceme amongst the foliage during spring.

Maesa montanais naturally found from India to China and Thailand growing in the understory of moist mixed forests on hillsides and the adjoining valleys from an altitude of 450m (1,476 ft) to 2,600m (8,530 ft).

It prefers a protected sunny to semi-shaded position and grows in well-drained organic rich moist sandy to clay soilsand is ph adaptable. It is drought and frost tender preferring a humid environment.

Mountain Maesa is grown for its bushy habit, attractive white flowers and its fruit. It is planted in parks and gardens along the borders as a specimen or in the understory of trees. It is also grown along water courses and when young can be used in patio pots and planter boxes. ID 2408

It is suitable for coastal and a low mountain regions and establishes in 3-4 years and is moderately long-lived. This shrub is also grown in sub-tropical gardens but may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery.
