This variable tree has a greyish trunk up to half its height with arched spreading smooth branches that from a broad to narrow domed crown. It has glossy green oval leaves and the white flowers appear in cluster during summer followed by woody fruit.

Eucalyptus populneais naturally found in Australia from inland south-eastern Queensland to north-east New South Wales growing on the open plains and adjoining hillsides in woodlands then extending to the coast in the north.

It grows in dry or seasonally inundated heavy clay soils in an open sunny position and is drought and light frost tolerant.

The Poplar Box is grown for its hardiness and its spreading habit. It is planted in parks, large gardens and in farms as a wind break or shelter belt.
