This rhizomatous perennial has rigid strap-like dark green leaves that form a clump. The upright branched inflorescence has nodding dark blue star-shaped flowers that appear from late spring to summer followed by dark blue berries.

Dianella revoluta is naturally found through out Australia except in the Northern Territory growing in sheltered moist positions on the coast, mountains and partially inland.
It grows in a well drained moderately fertile sandy loam in a sunny to semi shade position and is drought, salt and frost tolerant.
The Spreading Flax Lily is grown for its foliage and is planted in small gardens along borders or in rockeries and is used in commercial sites. It is suitable coastal or inland regions establishing in 1 to 2 years and used in patio pots, roof gardens and mass planting as a ground cover. ID 2396
