This shrub has reddish-brown branched stems that are arching and pendant towards the tips forming a dense rounded habit. It has glossy green heart-shaped leaves and the small tube-shaped waxy red flowers appear in clusters from spring to autumn.

Cavendishia acuminatais naturally found from southern Mexico to Colombia and Ecuador in South America growing in the Andes Mountains at an altitude between 1000m and 3,500m (3,000ft to 11,000ft).

It grows in a well drained, fertile moist organic rich soils that are tending acidic. It prefers a protected humid environment with semi shade to bright filtered light and is drought and frost tender.

This spreading shrub is grown for its flowers and is planted in small gardens or rockeries as a specimen. It is also used in tropical settings or as understorey filler and along creek embankments. It is suitable for coastal or mountainous regions establishing in 2 to 3 years.ID 2383
