This large tree has an upright deeply fissured grey brown bark that extends into the spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has pendant lanced-shaped grey green leaves and the white flowers appear in clusters during autumn.

It prefers a sandy to light clay loam in an open sunny position and is frost hardy but drought tender.
The Mealy Stringybark is grown for its habit and is planted in farms as a wind break or shelter belt and attracts bees for honey production.
