This suckering shrub is upright with slender silvery stems that form an open rounded crown. It has narrow grey green drooping phyllodes and the ball-shaped yellow flowers appear profusely in clusters during early spring.

Acacia boormanii is naturally found in Australia growing from east Gippsland along the Snowy River in Victoria to southern New South Wales in open forests at an altitude of from 400 m to 800 m (2,624 ft) and has naturalised in Canberra.

It prefers a well drained, moderately fertile moist sandy-gravelly to clay loams with a pH 6.5-7.5 and grows in a cool protected sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.
