This solitary feather palm has a light brown trunk, swollen at the base up to 300mm (1ft) wide and has closely set leaf base rings. There are up to 14 dark green divided fronds that are upright to arching forming an open rounded crown.

Satakentia liukiuensisis naturally found in the East China Sea growing on the islands of Ishigaki and Iriomote in the Ryukyu archipelago near sea level in sub tropical forests.

It prefers a moist well drained humus rich soil in a semi-shaded to full sun humid protected position and is frost and drought tender.

The Satake Palm is grown for its foliage and rounded Coconut-like crown. It is planted in parks and large gardens for tropical settings or along water courses and in group plantings. It is suitable for coastal regions establishing in 3 to 5 years and under cultivation the palm is smaller and is commonly found in botanical collections. ID 2320

Note:
The trunk is greyish green and the base forms many adventitious roots.
This plant is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery.
