This feather palm has green trunks that turn grey up to 25mm (1in) diameter and is tufted with over 12 stems. The divided dark green fronds have oblong leaflets and the small cup-shaped yellow flowers appear in summer and are followed by black fruit.

Ptychosperma ambiguumis naturally found in New Guinea growing in rainforests in well drained, moist fertile organic rich soils in a semi shaded to full sun position and is drought and frost tender.

This palm is grown for its foliage and is planted in tropical gardens as a specimen or in groups for parks and in jungles. It is also used in patio pots when young or grown in bright conservatories in cool climates establishing in 2 to 3 years and is suitable for tropical coastal or mountainous regions.ID 2313
