This fan palm has a solitary grey trunk up to 400mm (16in) in diameter. The circular-shaped divided fronds form a dense rounded crown with long, armed petioles. It has small cream coloured flowers that are followed by large fruits in clusters.

Pholidocarpus macrocarpusis naturally found from Thailand to the Malaysia peninsular growing in rainforests and along rivers in swampy or wet, moderately well drained fertile soils in an open sunny position and is drought and frost tender.

The Kepau Palm is grown for its rounded crown and is not commonly cultivated, but may be used in woodland settings, tropical gardens or parks and large gardens as an emergent canopy. It is suitable for coastal regions on creek embankments establishing in 3 to 5 years and found in botanical collections.When young the palm may be used as a pedestrian or intruder barrier. ID 2311

Note:
Under cultivation the palm grows smaller and in its native region it can attain a hight of 30m (100ft). It is a robust plant requiring a hot humid environment.
