This solitary fan palm has a fibrous greyish trunk up to 200mm (8in) wide with leaf bases and fibre towards the crown. The pleated circular-shaped light green fronds have wedge-shaped segments and has small white flowers followed by orange-red fruit.

Licuala ramsayiis naturally found in Australia growing in north-eastern Queensland along creeks or in swampy areas in rainforests.

It prefers organic rich moist soils that are moderately well drained and tolerates temporary inundation. It grows in a shaded to semi shaded, humid position with wind, frost and drought protection.

The Native Fan Palm is grown for its graceful habit and is planted in tropical settings or along water courses and around water features or in group plantings. It is suitable for protected coastal regions establishing in 5 to 7 years and used as an Indoor plant when young and planted in shady borders.Under cultivation the palm is normally smaller and grows slowly.
