This solitary fan palm may have suckers and has a trunk up to 125mm (5in) wide. The large rounded glossy green fronds are divided into pendant lanced-shaped segments and the small white flowers appear in long clusters followed by whitish berry-like fruit.

Thrinax radiatais naturally found from in North America from southern Mexico to the Florida Keys, Bahamas and West Indies growing in coastal regions up to an altitude of 1,200m (3,600ft).
It prefers a very well drained, organic rich limestone based soil in an open to protected sunny position and is frost and drought tender but salt spray tolerant.
The Florida Thatch Palm is grown for its rounded crown and small habit. It is planted in tropical or small gardens around a water feature and as a specimen plant. It is suitable for beach plantings or mountainous regions establishing in 3 to 5 years and is used as a lawn specimen or in group plantings along borders. ID 2297
Note:
The trunks broaden at the base with numerous exposed tough roots, and the upper part is ringed with several dead leaves forming a skirt under the crown. This is a tough plant tolerating exposed coastal positions, strong winds and saline soils, but is cold sensitive.
