This large fan palm has a solitary reddish-grey trunk with a few leaf bases attached. It has large dull dark green fan-like fronds that are pendant at the tips and forms an open rounded crown. It has small cream flowers, followed by dark purple berry-like fruit.

Livistona drudeiis naturally found in Australia growing in coastal regions north of Townsville, Queensland along creeks and in swamp margins.
It prefers a protected semi shaded, humid position and grows in moderately well drained organic rich, moist sandy loams and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
The Halifax Fan Palm is grown for its attractive crown and is planted in tropical settings around water features or on pond margins in group plantings. It is also used in patio pots when young, establishing in 2 to 3 years and is suitable for coastal regions along creek embankments and in rainforest settings. ID 2293
