This fern has an erect tufted rhizome up to 40mm (1½in) wide covered in brown scales. It has upright finely divided dare green fronds that are slightly arching out forming a leafy crown and the fertile fronds have slender segments, appearing in autumn.

Blechnum mooreiis naturally found in the New Caledonia islands growing in moist gullies as an understorey in forests. It prefers a well drained humus rich, moist acidic soil in a protected humid position with wind, frost and drought protection.
This fern is grown for its foliage and is planted along water courses in tropical or small gardens or as a potted feature specimen in a fernery. It is suitable for coastal regions establishing from division in 2 to 3 years and is grows in rock crevices or gullies.ID 2282

This species is not commonly cultivated and is normally replaced with Blechnum gibbumwhich is simular.
