This tuberous perennial twiner has woody stems and forms a dense habit over structures or in trees. It has divide leaves with thick dark green oblong leaflets and the cherry-red funnel-shaped flowers appear in clusters from summer to winter.

Ipomaea horsfalliaeis naturally found in the West Indies growing in tropical forests in organic rich, moist well drained soils in an open sunny position and is frost and drought tender but salt spray tolerant.

The Cardinal Creeper is grown for its flowers and attractive foliage. It established in 2 to 3 years and is planted in tropical gardens and trained over pergolas, structures or wire fencing for screening or for shade.
