This sub-shrub has upright slender branched stems that form a compact rounded habit. It has large dark green pointed elliptical leaves and the bright yellow tube-shaped flowers appear in the terminal cluster, above the foliage from autumn to early winter.

Barleria micans is naturally found from India to Africa growing in forest margins on the coast and in the lower mountains and commonly associated with watercourses.

It prefers a semi-shaded to full sun wind protected position and grows in organic rich moist fertile soils that are tending acidic and is frost and drought tender.

The Giant Yellow Shrimp is a grown for its attractive flowers and bushy habit. it is planted in tropical gardens along borders or in the understory of trees and is used in shaded patio pots or planter boxes.
