This large deciduous tree is upright with a grey-brown trunk and spreading branches that form a broad rounded crown. It has glossy bright green leaves with pointed serrated margins and the male catkins appear in spring followed by a brown acorns.

Quercus alienais naturally found from Japan to China and Korea growing in woodlands in moist well drained fertile soils in an open sunny position and is drought tender but frost tolerant.

The Oriental White Oak is grown for its foliage and stately habit. It is planted in parks and gardens as a lawn specimen for summer shade. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for moist woodland settings in temperate regions. Under cultivation the tree normally grows smaller and attains a height of 15m (45ft).ID 2243
