This perennial is upright and spreading with multiple squarish stems forming a rounded compact habit. The heart-shaped leaves are glossy dark green and the blue to violet tube-shaped flowers appear in a raceme throughout summer.

Salvia mexicanais naturally found in North America growing in Mexico in well drained moderately fertile sandy soils in a protected sunny position and is drought tender but frost tolerant.
Mexican Sage is grown for its flowers and its upright habit. It is planted in perennial borders or as a as a filler in garden beds. It establishes in one season and may be grown in large containers tolerating coastal or inland regions. Under cultivation the plant normally grows only to 1.5m (5ft) tall. ID 2205
