This large tree may have a solitary or multiple greyish trunks with spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has oblong glossy dark green leaves and the small cup-shaped white flowers appear in clusters during spring.

Laurus azoricais naturally found in Azores in the Canary Islands growing in stony well drained, moderately fertile moist soils in a protected sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.

The Canary Island Bay tree is grown for its habit and foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens as a lawn specimen for summer shade or may be planted in large borders. It establishes in 3 to 5 years but is not commonly cultivated and is suitable for sub-tropical regions. ID 2204

It is commonly seen in woodlands growing amongst rocks and under cultivation the tree is normally smaller.
