This large shrub has upright sparsely branched stems that form an open rounded habit. The red tinged silvery ovate leaves are crowded along the stems and the cone-shaped red flower head appears from spring to summer.

The flowers and foliage may be used in floral arrangements and the plant is suitable for coastal regions. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is grown under glass in cold climates as a specimen.
