This large clump forming perennial has multiple upright trunks with large, oblong banana-like dark green leaves that form a bushy crown. It has large bird-like, white flowers that appear amongst the foliage in clusters during summer.

Strelitzia albais naturally found on the North and South Cape in South Africa growing in fertile, moist well drained soils in a protected sunny position and is frost and drought tender.

The Great White Strelitzia is grown for its tropical effect and is planted in parks or large gardens as a specimen or in large border plantings. It establishes from division in 1 to 2 years and is suitable for coastal positions. It is also planted around water features for a tropical effect. ID 2180

It is a subtropical plant but will tolerate temperate climates to zone 8 in a protected position.
