This suckering tree is upright with grey-brown bark and spreading branches forming a rounded crown. The lobed bright green leaves turn yellow during autumn and the small pale yellow flowers appear in early spring, followed by winged seeds.

Acer cappadocicumis naturally found from Caucasus to northern Turkey, Iran and China growing in an open sunny position on well drained most fertile soils and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

The Cappadocian Maple is grown for its spreading habit and its autumn colour. It is planted in parks and gardens as a lawn specimen for shade. It is suitable for cool climates establishing in 3 to 5 years. It is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain but is an excellent tree for harsh conditions. ID 2150

Note:
The tree may attain a height of 30m (90ft), but under cultivation it normally grows to 20m (60ft). The stems remain green for several years before turning greyish and the trunk develops fissures.
