This shrub has upright stems that are slightly pendulous and forms a compact spreading rounded habit. It has pointed linear mid green leaves and the dark crimson bottlebrush-like flowers appear during summer towards the end of the branches.

Callistemon subulatusis naturally found in Australia from south-east New South Wales to Victoria growing along watercourses in well drained but moist moderately fertile light sandy loams. It prefers a full sun to semi shaded protected position and is frost and drought tolerant.

The Tonghi Bottlebrush is grown for its flowers and bushy habit. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions and planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or in shrub borders. It establishes in 2 to 3 years and is used along watercourses for attracting birds. ID 2135
