This succulent shrub has an upright pale brown trunk with small spreading branches that form a rounded crown (bonsai-like). It has fleshy, glossy green spoon-shaped leaves and the tiny star-shaped pinkish flowers form clusters in autumn.

Crassula ovatais naturally found from the North, West and East Cape of South Africa and northern to eastern Transvaal growing in a semi-shaded protected position in well drained moderately fertile humus rich soils with wind and frost protection but is drought tolerant.
