This oblong rounded cactus is up to 50mm (2in) thick and covered in thick tubercles The woolly areoles have radiating needle-like whitish spines that densely cover the plant and the pink funnel-shaped flowers appear during summer.

Mammillaria lanatais naturally found in North America growing in southern Mexico in very well drained moderately fertile gritty soils in an open sunny position and tolerates drought or high temperatures but is frost tender.
This cactus is grown for its clumping habit and is planted in cactus or small gardens, rockeries and on roof gardens as a specimen. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions and establishes from division in 1 to 2 years. It may be grown as a house plant or against a sunny wall. ID 2090
