This decumbent succulent perennial has thickish roots and overlapping foliage and forms a small clump. It has spotted grey green textured triangular-shaped leaves and the small pinkish tube-shape flowers appeared above the foliage from winter to spring.

Gasteria carinata is naturally found in South Africa growing in the southern Western Cape on the Riversonderend and Langrberg mountains in shale or sandstone outcrops along the margins dry creek beds from the near sea level to an altitude of 300 m (984 ft).
