This rhizomatous perennial has upright stems that are sparsely branched forming a rounded habit. It has broad lanced-shaped dark green leaves and the white to pink trunpet-shaped flowers appear in rounded clusters from summer to autumn.

Saponaria officinalisis naturally found from Europe to Asia and has naturalised in North America growing along stream edges and in damp woodlands in well drained, fertile moist slightly alkaline soils in an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

Note:
The plant may become rampant invading other garden beds, requiring some control and in cold climates the foliage is deciduous re-shooting during spring.
