This succulent perennial is stemless or short stemmed and produces offsets that form a dense mounded clump. It has fleshy silver-blue to greyish broad spoon-shaped leaves and the yellow tipped pink urn-shaped flowers appear above the foliage in spring.

Echeveria elegansis naturally found in North America growing in southern Mexico on rocky hillsides at high elevations. It prefers an open to exposed sunny position but tolerates some shade and grows in very well drained, poor to moderately fertile sand-stony to light loam and is pH adaptable. It is frost and drought tolerant and requires little attention once established.
The Mexican Snowball is grown for its attractive colourful foliage, clumping habit and its flowers. It is planted in rockeries or arid gardens as a specimen. It is also mass planted for bedding displays or used as a ground cover.
It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions and establishes in 2-3 years and is moderately long lived.
