This deciduous shrub to small tree is upright with reddish spreading branches and forms a sparse rounded habit. It has dull blue-green toothed oval leaves and produces long male and female catkins during spring.

Salix magnificais naturally found in western China growing in woodlands in well drained moderately fertile moist soil. It prefers an open sunny position and drought tender but frost tolerant.
