This feather palm is upright with a smooth whitish-grey trunk. The crown shaft is purplish and the erect divided fronds have long linear dark green leaflets that are reddish when young. During early summer flowers appear in clusters followed by red fruit.

Archontophoenix purpureais naturally found in Australia growing in north-eastern Queensland in rainforests along water courses at an altitude from 400 to 1200m (400ft). It prefers a well drained organic rich moist, granite based alluvial soil in a protected semi shaded position.

The Mt Lewis King Palm is grown for its colourful new foliage and crown shaft. It is planted as an understorey specimen in a rainforest setting or as a lawn specimen in parks and gardens. It establishes in 3 to 5 years but is slower in temperate climates and is suitable for coastal or gully settings or low mountain regions.ID 2012

Note:
This palm normally grows in a sub tropical region but tolerates a warm temperate climate growing more slowly.
