This epiphytic bromeliad is rootless and is composed of long pendant thread-like stems that branch and are covered in silvery scales. It has small needle-like silvery leaves and the greenish tube-shaped flowers appear in late spring or autumn.

Tillandsia usneoidesis naturally found from southern North America to Central America, West Indies and extending to southern Argentina with the greatest climatic range of any bromeliad. It prefers a warm humid environment but will tolerate cooler winters and grows in full sun to semi shade and is frost and drought tender.
