This deciduous to semi-deciduous shrub has a long arching slender stems that form a compact bushy habit. It has divided leaves with glossy dark green oblong leaflets and the cup-shaped white flowers appear in terminal clusters during early summer.

Osteomeles schweriniaeis naturally found from Yunnan to south-west China growing in shrub land along river valleys. It prefers a sunny wind protected position and grows in fertile well drained moist alluvial soils and is drought tender and mildly frost tolerant.
This shrub is grown for its flowers and arching habit. It is planted as a specimen in parks and gardens or used along sheltered borders for screening. It is suitable for inland regions and establishes in 3 to 4 years and is moderately long lived. It is also planted in courtyard planter boxes and used in Japanese gardens. ID 1957
