This variable succulent perennial has erect stems that branch at the base and form a clump. It has lanced-shaped to triangular fleshy leaves that clasp the stem and the scarlet to white star-shaped flowers appear in terminal clusters from spring to summer.

The Propeller Plant is grown for its foliage and clumping habit. It is planted in rockeries or succulent gardens and dry parts of the garden as a specimen. It is commonly used as a container plant and establishes from cuttings in 2 to 3 years. In cool climates it is used indoors tolerating low light conditions. ID 1940
