This rhizomatous aquatic perennial forms a clump with slender soft stems that rise to that floating dark green heart-shaped leaves. It has white star-shaped flowers that appear in clusters above the water from summer to autumn.

Nymphoides crenatais naturally found in Asia growing in still water along river margins and in ponds up to a depth of 1m (3ft). It prefers fertile wet soil in an open sunny position and is frost and drought tender.
Crested Floating Heart is grown for its flowers and foliage. It is planted in small or tropical garden ponds as a specimen or used in glasshouse aquatic displays. It establishes in one season and is suitable for coastal regions but may become invasive. Control methods include physically removing the plant to higher ground and allowing it to dry out.ID 1936

In many parts of North America, this plant is regarded as a weed infesting or waterways, canals and ponds. It has a similar appearance to the banana Lily Nymphoides aquatica.
