This perennial has upright branched woody stems that form an open habit. It has silvery grey oblong leaves that are crowded towards the top of the stems and the small white to violet tube-shaped flowers appear in branched clusters from summer to autumn.

Salvia apianais naturally found in North America from southern California to Baja California growing in well drained poor to moderately fertile sandy soils and prefers a hot open sunny position and tolerates drought and high temperatures but is frost tender.

White Sage is a perennial that is grown for its foliage and is planted in gardens as a specimen for colour contrast. It is also suitable for containers or roof gardens and establishes in one season from division. It requires a hot dry summer to perform well and may be grown in arid gardens incoastal regions.
