This shrub to small tree has upright greyish branches that form a dense bushy habit. It has dark green lanced-shaped toothed leaves and the male and female flowers appear in catkins during spring and are followed by blue black fruit.

The Californian Wax Myrtle is grown for its foliage and bushy habit. It is planted in coastal gardens tolerating salt spray or used in shrub borders for screening.
