This small shrub has an upright to spreading habit with slender branched stems and a soft appearance. It has mid to dark green needle-like leaves that are covered in fine hairs and the purplish cup-shaped flowers appear in a terminal cluster during spring.

Melaleuca trichophyllais naturally found in south-western Western Australia growing in very well drained sandy soils in an open sunny position and is drought and moderately frost tolerant.

This shrub is grown for its flowers and soft textured foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or in shrub borders. It establishes in 2 to 4 years but may be difficult to cultivateoutside its native region. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions and is an excellent foliage contrast specimen for a native garden. ID 1843
