This shrub is upright with a grey trunk and spreading branches that form a bushy habit. It has needle-like bright green leaves and when in flower it is easy identifiable, with clusters of pink tube-shaped flowers appear on the older wood during autumn.

It prefers a light well drained sandy soil that is moderately fertile and grows in an open sunny position and is drought and moderately frost tolerant.
This Hakea is grown for its rounded habit and bright pink flowers. It is planted as a specimen in shrub borders for screening in small gardens or bushland settings. It establishes in 2 to 4 years and may be grown in large containers. It is suitable for dryer soils on the coast and inland attracting birds. ID 1839
