This shrub has slender reddish spreading stems that form an upright to open prostrate habit. It has dark green wedge-shaped leaves and the dull red pea-shaped flowers appear in small pendant clusters from late winter to spring.

Poison Pea is grown for its flowers and is planted in small gardens as a ground cover. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions and is used in containers or on roof gardens. It establishes in 2 to 3 years but may be difficult to obtained, requiring a specialist nursery. It is also plantedon embankments and as a spill-over.ID 1836
