This vigorous shrub to small tree has a thick stout trunk with strong roots and spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has glossy dark green oblong leaves and the yellow to scarlet figs appear from spring to summer.

Clown Fig is a large shrub that is grown for its foliage and habit. It is planted in tropical gardens as a specimen or for screening along borders. It is also grown in containers establishing in 2 to 4 years and is suitable for coastal regions. The cultivars are more numerous than the species under cultivation and in cool climates it is grown under glass. ID 1788

In its natural habitat it can attain a height of 15m (50ft), but under cultivation it normally attains a height of 3m (10ft).
