This variable perennial sub-shrub has stolons that roots at the nodes and forms a prostrate habit. It has textured coppery-green, drooping elliptical leaves and the red trumpet-shaped flowers appear in a raceme from spring to autumn.

It prefers a protected semi shaded position and grows in moist, but well drained organic rich soils and requires wind, frost and drought protection.
