This large coniferous tree has a red-brown trunk with ascending branches that form a narrow conical habit. It has grey-green fan-like branchlets that are arranged irregularly with scale-like pointed leaves and the small brown cones appear in late summer.

Chamaecyparis thyoidesis naturally found in the gulf and on the Atlantic coast of eastern North America growing in deep well drained fertile moist soils in a protected sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

Atlantic White Cedar is grown for its attractive habit and timber. It is planted in large gardens and parks as a lawn specimen or grown commercially in forest. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and only the cultivars are cultivated in domestic gardens. It is suitable for cool-mountain or coastal regions and is moderately deer resistant. ID 1781

Note:
This is a fast growing tree prefering a cool moist climate and is used as timber for buildings, poles and mining structures. Under cultivation this tree grows smaller only attaining a hight of 15m (50ft) with a with of 4m (12ft).
