This deciduous shrub has spreading reddish stems that form a low mound habit. It has dull green ovate leaves that turn red during autumn and the small white saucer-shape flowers appear during summer and are followed by bright red fruit.

Cotoneaster apiculatusis naturally found in western China growing in moderately fertile moist well-drained soils in an open sunny position and is drought tender and frost tolerant.

Cranberry Cotoneaster is grown for its habit and red berry-like fruit. It is planted in gardens as a ground cover or as a spill-over in rockeries and above retaining walls. It is suitable for cool coastal or mountain regions and establishes in 3 to 4 years. Once established it tolerates drier soils and in warmer climates it may be semi deciduous. ID 1750
