This deciduous tree forms a trunk with grey brown rough bark and spreading branches forming a broad rounded crown. Its glossy dark green heart-shaped leaves that contain latex and the small green flowers appear before the leaves in spring.

Eucommia ulmoidesis naturally found in central China growing in light to medium loams that are moist and fertile. It prefers a protected sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

Gutta-percha Tree is large and is grown for its habit and is planted in parks and gardens as lawn specimen for summer shade. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is long lived. It is suitable for cool mountain gardens but may be difficult to obtain. ID 1638
