Acer campestreis naturally found from Europe to western Asia and North America growing in dry deciduous woodlands or thickets.

It prefers a porous well-drained soils that tend to be alkaline (chalky) in an open sunny position and are drought tender but frost tolerant.

Field Maple is grown for its autumn colour and its ability to respond to pruning and is commonly used as a large hedging plant or used in border plantings. It is also grown as a lawn specimen tree for large gardens and establishes from seed in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for cold climates.ID 1624

Note:
The inner bark was turned to a powder then used by several North American Indian tribes to make bread, and though the wood has little economic importance it is used to make violins or for cabinet making. This hard wood has a fine-grained and is excellent for burning.
