This perennial has a slender branched creeping rhizome that forms a clump with upright foliage. It has paired long stalked oval mid-green leaves and the white bell-shaped fragrant nodding flowers, appear in a raceme on a leafless scape in late spring.

Convallaria majalisis naturally found in the cool temperate zones from eastern North America, Europe and Asia growing in various woodlands and alpine regions forming dense stands.

It prefers a moist well-drained soils with ample leaf mould in a semi shaded protected position but tolerates full sun and is drought and frost tolerant.

Lilly-of-the-valley is a hardy plant that is grown for its sweetly perfumed flowers and its clumping habit. It is suitable for damp shady positions in borders or as understorey planting. It adapts to a wide range of conditions for either coastal or inland gardens and establishes in 1 to 2 years from division. ID 1600
