This semi-evergreen perennial has a rounded spreading habit with underground stems that root at the nodes. It has oval to lanced-shaped dark-green leaves and the trumpet-shaped lavender-blue to white flowers appear in a cluster during early summer.

Phlox divaricatais naturally found from Quebec in Canada to southern and central USA growing in well-drained fertile moist organic rich soils. It prefers a sunny to semi shaded protected position and is drought tender but frost tolerant.

Blue Phlox is a perennial that is grown for its flowers and is planted as a low border in garden beds or in rockeries. It is also naturalised in a woodland setting and can be grown in patio pots and planter boxes. It establishes in 1 to 2 years and is suitable cool or mountain gardens but will tolerate a warm temperate climate (zone 9). ID 1586
