This succulent has a short stem with terminal rosettes of broad leathery lanced-shaped slightly prickly glossy mid green leaves. The white bell shaped fragrant flowers appear in clusters during summer on a very tall stem up to 12m (40ft) tall.

Furcraea foetidais naturally found from the West Indies to southern Brazil and in time it forms a short trunk to 900mm (36in) tall.
It growing in sharply drained moderately fertile soils in a open sunny position and is drought tolerant but frost tender.
