This epithetic perennial produces offsets and forms a clump. The strap-like light green leathery leaves form tubular rosette from which an erect pyramidal flower head emerges containing red tube-shaped flowers tipped in violet and appearing during summer.

Billbergia pyramidalisis naturally found in southern Brazil growing as an epiphyte or terrestrial plant in moist humus rich soils or in composted leaf mould in a humid environment. It prefers a semi-shaded to bright filtered light position with wind, frost and drought protection.
This bromeliad is grown for it flowers and clumping growth habit. It is used as an understorey plant or mass planted in shaded garden beds as a ground cover.
